Some more Posers to MCC....

1. Some NGSs and public have complained recently, that the water supplied to Mysore city is polluted as regular treated water is getting mixed with sewage water at Devaraya Canal. An NGO -MGP- has even published photograph of the likely place this takes place. The Vani Vilas Water Works has not come with any convincing answer to the charges, which involves Public Health.

Last year, similar accusation was levelled against (Mysore City Corporation) MCC. The then Commissioner, who ran a running battle with NGOs, just refused to accept the fact the water supplied to Mysore was contaminated, when even one girl died of jaundice as a result of this.

One obvious solution to the Annual- tug-of-war is:Why can't the MCC take the help of an independant body or institute to test the water parameters once a month and make the results public in local Newspapers and T.V.? This will, at once clear the air, make the work of MCC more transparent. The Indian Institute of Science ( IISc), is a world famous institute and it's Civil Engineering Dept. would be glad to carry out the tests and help out MCC.Even the Local Engineering Colleges and experts can help out. Instead , it is amusing to see charges are disregarded and some inane explanations are dished out periodically.

The present Commissioner is receptive to ideas, willing to discuss with Public on various topics. Surely, it will enhance the reputation of MCC, if its Chief Officer, makes sure good quality water is supplied, gets it tested independantly and makes Public ,the results. The MCC can really gain the confidence of the Public by this simple act.

2. It is a common sight for locals and tourists to find pigs crosssing their path every now and then in Mysore which is touted as ' Tourists City and Heritage City'!In some places, the pigs roam around primary and middle schools ,amidst children, when they have their aftrenoon lunch. It is well known mosquito-pig is a deadly combination in spreading Encephalitis - a brain disease- among childre who have low immunity. This happened a couple of years ago in Rai Bareli, in U.P. when they were lot of deaths. Zoologists have chronicled some of the States which are potentially prone to this disease. Mysore is one of them. The Research Paper and the statistics have been given to the Commisioner , six months back. Yet nothing has happened. They are dishing out some inane explanation 'that they are in the process of importing pig catchers from Tamil Nadu'!
Jnurm funds, Dasara funds in Millions will come to Mysore for a cleaner, more hygenic environment. Yet, the pigs will be a permanent attraction (!)in Mysore, posing hazards to children, courtesy MCC...
